Bhadrachalam

Sri Sita Ramachandra Swamy Temple

This temple is one of the most sacred shrines in India. It is situated on the banks of of pictures Godavari river. Legend has it that lord Rama come down from the heavens to bless sage Bhadra who had meditated intensely for his residence in this place. The place was named, Bhadrachalam, after sage Bhadra.

The marriage anniversary of lord Rama is celebrated as "Srirama Navami". Devotees believe that a dip in the river during the celebrations will help them attain salvation. The jewels offered by Bhakta Ramadas to goddess Sita are on display in the temple. The Dhyan Mandir is a serene place for meditation and officer beautiful panoramic view of the town.

Kinnerasani Sanctuary

Wildlife sanctuary

Spread over an area of 634 sq. km the Kinnerasani Sanctuary forms a part of Dandakaranya forest in Khammam. Lying on the banks of the Godavari river, it derives it's bisects the sanctuary to drain into Godavari. The sanctuary supports a variety of flora and fauna, including the tiger, gaur, python, etc.

The sanctuary encloses the Kinnerasani reservoir and has attraction like a deer park, Glass guest house, an ecological park and an environmental education centre.

Khammam fort

950 AD

Built in 950 AD by the kakatiyas, the Khammam fort has had a long and checkered history. It was taken over by the Qutb Shahi rulers in 1512. Passed into the hands of the Asaf Kahi rulers in the 17th century. The fault build with granite, stands majestically on a hill in the heart of Khammam town.
